Mo Bite Products LLC. Receives Assistance from the Urban League of Greater Cleveland

Mo Bite Products LLC., located in Euclid, Ohio, serves vegan foods and baked goods as well as fresh produce from their urban farm on the eastside of Cleveland. Desiring for everyone to have access to healthy foods, owners- Samuel and Ella Mitcham, offer their food products via their 100% vegan food trailer. Ella and Sam began Mo Bite Products in 2013 with a goal to introduce vegan foods to the non-vegan culture in a way that would help them to make the transition to a plant based diet. This was of particular importance to Ella as she experienced an illness and was unable to retain food. Her son Rashid, whom was already a vegan, prepared a vegan dish and she felt better and continued the diet.

Sam Mitcham is the light of Mo Bite Farms. He is the farmer and grows the vegetables on a small quarter acre part of the OSU extension. He also gives them the ability to be a farm to plate provider, conduct cooking classes, and sell fresh produce, compost, and mulch. Rashid is also a part of the business as he trained at the Soul Food Vegetarian Restaurant in Cleveland and has worked for multiple food service companies.

In order to scale, Mo Bite needed the assistance of the Urban League of Greater Cleveland’s Entrepreneurship Center. Sam and Ella worked with the Cleveland SBDC and was able to obtain a loan through the Capital Access Fund of Greater Cleveland (CAF) in the amount of $65,000 to purchase a food truck to expand into the healthy, organic and mobile food industry. CAF, a partnership with The City of Cleveland the National Development Council, the Urban League of Greater Cleveland, the National Urban League’s Urban Empowerment Fund, Cuyahoga County, Morgan Stanley and other private local lenders and foundations, was established to help African American and other minority businesses gain access to capital and technical assistance to build community wealth.

Currently, Mo Bite travels around Northeast Ohio with their knockdown food stand and sells their produce at farmer’s markets and other special events. More focus will be placed on preparing vegan recipes for people at events across the region as they continue to attend famer’s markets.
