Philadelphia Woman Buys 1st Home Thanks to the Urban League

Sharon Gilliam-Davis came to the Urban League wanting to buy a home but not knowing how. However, she was open to the process and began working with our UL of Philadelphia’s housing counselor right away.

At that point, Ms. Gilliam-Davis had been living with a relative as a single mother of a 10 year old son. Over the course of the next 2 months, she removed faulty information from her credit report, paid off delinquent accounts, built up her savings, and secured a pre-approval from her local bank. Thanks to the Urban League's pre-purchase program, Sharon secured $5,500 in grants requiring no repayment, and purchased her first home 2 months later for $79,900 at an interest rate of 3.875%. Also, she received 3% towards her down payment from the seller.

If you want to buy a home and could use some help, contact your local Urban League today!
