State of the Urban League, 2011 Keynote Address
Boston, Massachusetts
July 27, 2011

This is the city where America began.

This is the city where an escaped slave who made his own way in the world became the first to die in the struggle for a nation to escape oppression and make its own way in the world.

In this city, a people rejected unfairness, inequality, and submission, and decided what America would be.
Through 230 years of history, time and time again, it has been Boston FIGHTING TO makE sure this Great Experiment called America stays true to America.

Good evening, Urban Leaguers, and welcome to our 2011 CONFERENCE.  My name is Marc Morial and I am proud to stand as the eighth President and CEO of the National Urban League….and I AM EMPOWERED.

I’m proud to be here in Boston where America began, where America decided what it would be and where time and time again, great men and women have stood their ground to defend it.  And that our sacred responsibility as Urban Leaguers –FIGHTING to make sure America stays true to America.
